The First Lady Asma al Assad Gender: Female Birthday: 11 August 1975 The Syrian First Lady Asma al Assad was born in London on 11 August 1975. She attended King's College, London, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science first class honors degree in Computer Science and a Diploma in French Literature. she speaks Arabic, English, French and Spanish. In December 2000 she got married to the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, and they have three children, two boys Hafez, and Kareem, and a girl Zein. Mrs Assad's efforts have focused on one main objective: fostering economic and social development and improving the living standards and educational attainment of the Syrian people. She focuses her energies on issues concerning rural development, child care, and disadvantaged children, information and communications technology and women empowerment. She also sponsors activities that highlight Syrian history, civilization and culture. She has realized that in order to build a sound basis for a developed society, it is essential to establish cooperation between the government and civil society organizations and give a greater role to these organizations.
