Описание

Sektor 304 is an Industrial music project born in July 2007 by João Filipe, percussionist in several projects such as Two White Monsters, Unzen Pilot, FRICS ou Hhy & the Macumbas among others, and André Coelho, who dedicated to sound processing and composition in Profan and Sparagmos. In July 2007, the two original members João Filipe and André Coelho gathered for a series of rehearsals and raw recordings from which came their first known demo. This CDR, limited to 25 copies and simply entitled "Sektor 304" was given to a few contacts and served the main purpose of finding them concerts. By the end of July of that same year, Sektor 304 performed their first concert, opening for Sal Y Mileto from Equador in Casa Viva, Porto. From the very start, the duo claimed to be inspired by the old school bands and projects of Industrial Music, such as Test Dept, Einstürzende Neubauten, SPK, Throbbing Gristle, Dissecting Table, Esplendor Geometrico, Z'ev or Le Syndicat and so their sonority was placed within that musical genre, by mixing heavy electronics to the sound textures and rhythms extracted from scraps, garbage and debris. This allowed to apply into the composition sounds taken from real objects and field recordings, that were amplified and processed in a game of scales and sound modelling, repeated to exhaustion. By the end of 2007, their first official release saw the light of day: "Primary Interface" was a self-released CDR limited to 50 copies that is considered by the band something like a revisionist catalogue of influences, in order to explore the potential of their equipment and "modus operandi". In 2008, a split with PS, a Portuguese electronic music artist, is recorded and released through his netlabel Enough Records. Following this split, a live collaboration takes place at Fábrica do Som, Porto. Later that year, the second self-released CDR is out. Entitled "Transmissions", this is a much more ambient release, where sounds are explored considering their spatiality, texture, tone and reverberation. This also marks the shift of the working method: "Transmissions" is a totally improvised session, fully charged with a shamanistic vibe. In late 2009, the North American label Malignant Records releases "Soul Cleansing". Sektor 304 takes once again a different road, using several approaches and working methods within the recording of the album, ending with a much more diverse, structured and dynamic work. Several new influences enter the equation, such as Dub by the use of repetition and full bass sound; heavy drones and tense ambient sections side by side with the testosterone injections so typical in early Swans; also the strong rhythmic component that takes inspiration from either Godflesh as from African drumming. The album is an exercise on power and strength, manipulating "non-musical" sounds and rhythms, inducing visual sensations that brings to mind images from Tsukamoto, Andrei Tarkovsky and Lynch or the narratives created by J.G. Ballard. From 2008 to 2009, Sektor 304 played several other live concerts with projects such as Camusi, Wolfskin, PS, Most People Have Been Trained To Be Bored or Waste Disposal Machine. In 2010, Sektor 304 played live at Máus Hábitos, Porto, with a new member in their ranks: Henrique Fernandes began handling the electric double-bass. During that year they took part in the Bracara Extreme Fest 2010 Portuguese music festival, and their track "Body Hammer" was featured on the 84th edition of Terrorizer Magazine's Fear Candy CD series, which was included with the publication's 200th issue. They also performed one of their most important gigs: a very short 20 minutes performance at Casa da Música, with a massively powerful sound. By this time, the band was a quartet with the entry of Gustavo Costa as a percussionist, aid
